Staffing
Key Person
With parental consent, your child will be allocated a Key Person on arrival; she will provide them with the physical and emotional support necessary to make the transition from home to Pre-School, as well as providing you with a vital link to the setting. Working within the Early Years Foundation Stage, (EYFS) she will do observations on your child, monitoring development and recording their progress which is available for you to see and discuss during your session of parental help, or at other times, by prior arrangement. Staff are always happy to discuss with you any worries or queries you may have over your child’s progress.
Consultation Evenings
Consultation evenings are held twice a year, before half term in the Autumn and Spring terms. This is a 10-minute opportunity to speak with your child’s Key person, exchanging information about your child’s interest and development and answering any questions you might have. Exact dates and times are advised in our newsletters.
Reports
Reports are issued in June to those Children who will be returning in September. Leavers will receive their EYFS books.
Praise & Reward
Praise is vital to a child’s development and is given regularly by the staff, whether for good work or for being especially helpful or considerate. In addition, children can be given stickers and their work is displayed on the wall. They also receive a sticker for bringing in theme-related items or homework.
Discipline
Firmness is important, but so are understanding and tolerance. Simply telling a child to behave better does not give them the strength to control their feelings. They can only learn slowly how to share, etc., and accept ‘no’. They learn this by example. Please see our behaviour management policy
Big School
The teachers from the ‘Big Schools’ often visit us to see the children before they move up, viewing them in their play environment. A short development report on your child, will also be forwarded directly to the relevant school
