Children MUST wear sunhats during hot weather ot they remain inside. Sun hats are on sale for £4.50, their own hats may be worn. Also make sure that you applied sun lotion on your child.

Plese also be reminded tht the children need to wear a pre-school t-shirt underneath their sweatshirts, to ensure they remain in uniform if their remove their sweatshirts.

The planting went down well with the children. We have filled our raised flower beds with flowers and vegetables which the children helped to plant and they are now caring for.

The caterpillar/butterfly and tadpole/frog cycles went well and the life frog was enjoyed.

Good language and new vocabulary has been excellent. Some of the children 'read' the hungry caterpillar story all the way through to the younger children.

We hope all Mums enjoyed their Mother's Day presents the children made for them - it reinforced the children's learning on plants and growth.

The children are enjoying getting out now the weather is starting to get warmer and they are noticing the changes in the environment.

We had visits from a hamster called Harold which belongs to Sandra and two Degus belonging to Carol.

Easter activities have been enjoyed by the children especially the food activities.

Thank you to the parents who helped with our spring walk.

Little Saplings online shop

Little Saplings Pre-School is delighted to announce a new fundraising initiative whereby parents can help to raise funds for the school simply  by shopping  online  at your favourite online shops.

For example: Tesco shop and drop, Toys R US, Amazon, ELC, PC World only to name a few.

How it works

Every time you  want to shop online, simply visit:

 www.schoolfundraising.org.uk/little-saplings

which has links to all of your favourite online stores, plus a wide range of specialist online retailers. Purchases made via links from the site can earn Little Saplings a cash-back donation of up to 10% ....and it won't cost you a penny more!!!

and then choose from one of the options below:

1.Visit the shopping mall: A good starting point, especially if you have an idea of where you want to shop. Simply browse the list of leading retailers and click on the retailer's logo to visit their website to shop online as usual.

2.Compare Product Prices: Not sure where you want to shop or want to compare prices? Try our "Shop Window" search facility to compare prices for an item from hundreds of specialist online retailers.

3.Google it: If you can't find what you are looking for in the Shopping Mall or Shop Window, then use the in-built Google Search facility to search the web.Purchases made via this route won't earn cash cash-back donations as they would above, but every time you click on one of the "Ads by Google" sponsored links the school will earn a few pennies more!!

You can even save this page as your Home page or to your favourites, using the buttons above to make it easier to find again!

Little Saplings needs your help!!!!
Fundraising

We have joined Fones4schools mobile phone recycling campaign to raise money for new equipment and activities. We receive £300 for every 200 phones collected, which as you can imagine is a great way of increasing funds. It does not matter if they are broken. We will hand out bags to the children in order to collect phones. For each phone they bring to school they will be rewarded with a prize. The  more they collect the larger the prize will be. The company provides the prizes and it will be all explained in detail on a leaflet.

Woodland Trust

We joines forces with the Woodland Trust the UK's leading wooldland conservation charity, to plant native copse in our school grounds. We will receive in march 2009 a copse pack from the Woodland Trust. Each hedge and copse pack comes with full instructions on how to plant and care for the trees as well as worksheets to help the children learn about the trees they are planting and teacher's notes on the exercises. The trees and shrubs are all native broadleaved which means, that with a little luck, they will be growing on well in the next century - when the children's grandchildren will be able to inspect their handiwork. It's all part of the Woodland Trust's Tree For All campaign - the largest children's tree-planting mission the Uk has ever seen. Launched in 2004, the five-year project will see one million children plant 12 million trees. It's hoped that through the simple act of planting trees, children will grow up with a respect for the environment and inspire them to really get in touch with nature and learn about the ecology of these wonderful habitats. Educating today's children about the benefit of looking after our environment will protect the forests of tomorrow. By planting and looking after these hedges and copses the children are contributing to a greener future for all of us. Further information about Tree For All can be found at www.treeforall.org.uk

Ink Cartridges

As an additional means of raising funds we are now members of The Recycling Factory TRF. As well as recycling mobile phones we are also recycling printer cartridges. As this is a lucrative means of increasing funds for the Pre-school we would ask everybody to assist by recycling their cartridges.

We have already handed bags out to the children in order for them to place unwanted cartridges in but as yet there has been little response. As every home has one if not more printers there should have been a greater response to this project.

We have approached the fundraising issue at Saplings from a different angle in as much as we are actually earning money from peoples unwanted items and from activities which people would have carried out anyway. This is why it is so important to become actively engaged within these activities. This in turn benefits all the children as we can purchase more and more new equipment.

By recycling telephones and printer cartridges this is the first stage in teaching children the values of environmental protection. Rather than have these items placed in landfill sites children can be tought that waste can be reused. As Bob the Builder states: "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle".
