Admissions

Admissions

NumbersPre-school generally admits children 3 times a year, and a child may start at 2 ½ years of age, subject to availability of places.

Children and parents are invited to attend part of a session prior to starting.  Here, the parent and child can familiarize themselves with the environment and receive starter packs full of relevant information.  A £5 contribution towards the administration costs of your child’s enrolment is requested at this time.

Our Conditions of Entry are:

  • Children must be a minimum of 2 years 6 months of age and sufficiently developed so as not to cause detriment to the learning and/or safety of existing children.
  • Except in exceptional circumstances, it is expected every child will attend a minimum of two sessions per week.
  • Sight of Original Birth Certificate (or other official documentation detailing date of birth) and a copy of it must be submitted.

My Child isn’t Dry

Don’t panic, this isn’t a problem.  Please make the Pre-School leader aware if your child isn’t dry.  We would ask that your child attends Pre-School in pull-ups, as these are easier to change, if necessary, than nappies.  You will also need to provide us with clean pull-ups, wipes and nappy sacks for the session.  You will be asked to sign a continence home/setting agreement, to clarify matters.

We ask that all parents provide a change of clothes for their child, as even the driest can have accidents, and although we do hold a supply of spare clothes this can at times be used up.

Clothing

Uniform - Red Pre-School T-Shirts and Sweatshirts are required to be worn: We aim to hold a stock of second-hand uniform; these are available at a reduced cost.

Red and white gingham dresses may be worn from Easter until the autumn half term.

Trousers/Skirts: These remain a free choice.  However, please remember clothing that is easy to manage, e.g. remove and replace, will help your child to gain independent skills, such as self toileting.  For example, belts, excessive buttons and dungarees may all hinder independence.

Footwear: Please ensure your child wears suitable shoes to enable them to run and climb safely.  Slip-on shoes don’t facilitate climbing.  As the children spend extended times outside, we ask that a pair of named wellies be left in pre-school in our wellie park,   so they may play outside even when the ground is wet.

Jewellery: The wearing of jewellery is currently permitted within the Pre-School; however, no responsibility will be accepted for loss or damage incurred whilst your child is with us.  Pierced ears: any earrings worn must be studs; hoop earrings are not permitted.

Please remember your child will get messy and dirty.  You can expect them to lose bracelets and baubles, so please do NOT send your child to pre-school in their best clothes or with valuable accessories.

All removable clothing, plus bags and lunch boxes should be clearly labelled.  Staff cannot be held responsible for theft, loss, or damage to clothes or belongings of children at the Pre-School.

Collection 11.30 and 3.00

CollectionPlease pick up your child promptly at the end of the session.  Failure to collect your child promptly will result in an invoice to cover the staff costs incurred, or the fee for attending the relevant session.  Please see non-collection policy.

If you are unavoidably detained you must inform the Pre-School immediately.

If any other person is going to pick up your child at the end of the session, sign the Collection Book and state who will be collecting your child on your behalf and from which session.  If you wish to pick up your child before the end of the session, please inform staff when you bring your child into Pre-School.

Unplanned collection: Should you need to change your planned collection during session, you must phone and advise the staff of this, stating who will now be collecting your child.  Should this person be unknown to the staff, then a password will be required to authenticate the collector.
